The tournament was held between the 22nd and 28th of April 2005 at the Porto Carras Grand Resort in Chalkidiki with open participation, 9 rounds swiss system and  time control 90 minutes plus 30 seconds increment per move, according to the official announcement of the Greek Chess Club "A.M.O. Galaxias". Total prizes: 6.500 EURO.

1st World School Championship

The 1st World School Championship for school chess champions in categories Under 8, 10, 12, 14, and 16, was held between the 22nd and 28th of April 2005 at the  Porto Carras Grand Resort. The total number of participants reached 195 from 19 countries. Organizers of this great event were the World Chess Federation (FIDE), the International School Chess Union, the Greek Chess Federation, the Union of Chess Clubs of Thessaloniki & Halkidiki, and the Chess Club "Galaxias" of  Thessaloniki.

Both events were part of Games Festival, a mass international event which was organized for the first time in Greece and took place from the 21st to 29th of April 2005 at the Porto - Carras Grand Resort, in Chalkidiki, one of the most beautiful hotel complexes in Greece.

Games Festival, besides chess, included a series of tournaments and competitions of the most prestigious sports such as tennis, golf, billiards, bridge, 5x5 football, and of the most popular table games, like scrabble, play house, strategy and fantasy games etc as well.

Event Consulting Company, the organizer of Games Festival, gave a brilliant reception at the Villa "Galini" on Monday 25th of April.

This villa of unique architecture and beauty covers a vast surface of 2.000 square metres and offers a fantastic panoramic view of Porto Carras Complex.
Invited at the reception were Helena Rapti, distinguished member of the Greek Parliament, Gerry Walsh (in the photo with Mrs Rapti), Deputy President of  the European Chess Union, Alexander Kostyev, President of the International School Chess Union, Takis Nikolopoulos & Christos Pilalis, members of the Board of the Greek Chess Federation, Dionisis Artinopoulos, President of the Greek Billiards Federation, Spiros Koutroubas & Annie Karamanli, President and Secretary of the Greek Bridge Federation, Mr. Genatos, representative of the Greek Weight-Lifting Federation, Varvara Kalatzidou, Olga Dadini & Argiris Kotsis, journalists, Theodoros Tsorbatzoglou, Head of the Organizing Committee of Games Festival, and Reinhed Wertner, General Manager of Porto Carras.

Helena Rapti, always supporting and encouraging important chess events in Northern Greece, stated that she will do her best in order to satisfy the demand of a considerable number of sports federations to be permanently accommodated in Olympic buildings and facilities.
