Along with the games of the WYCC 2003 ended the 74th FIDE Congress. Here
are some of the most important matters that were discussed and decided
in the 74th FIDE Congress.
• The Men’s World Championship 2003 will be organized in April/May 2004.
More specifically, the knock-out games will be held in April or May and
the winner will play against Garry Kasparov in June for the title of the
World Champion.
• The Women’s World Championship 2003 will be held in Georgia in
May/June 2004 and the total prize will be 450,000 $
• The 36th Chess Olympiad will take place in Calvia, Majorca Island, in
Spain from 14 – 31 October 2004.
• The 37th Chess Olympiad will take place in Turin, Italy, from 20 May -
4 June 2006.
• Many countries, such as Armenia, Germany, Sweden, and Argentina, have
indicated an interest for the hosting of the 2008 Chess Olympiad.
• The World Juniors and Girls Championships 2004 will be held in early
September in Calcutta, India.
• The World Juniors and Girls Championships 2005 will be held in Antalya,
Turkey and for the years 2006 and 2007 the same event has been awarded
to Armenia.
• The World Youth Championship 2004 will be held in early November in
Heraklion of Crete, Greece, and for the years 2005 and 2006 the same
event has been awarded to Belfort, France and India respectively.
• The next World Rapid Chess Championship will be held in Cap d’Agde,
France, in 2005.
• New pairing system will come into force for the Olympiad, which will
use normal Bucholtz score.
• A new championship has been approved called World Youth
Inter-Continental Team Championship for the winners of each category in
continental championships.
• The inaugural World Major Open Championship will be organized by the
British Chess Federation in Scarborough in August 2004 to celebrate the
100-year anniversary of the federation.
• The offices of FIDE move to Greece.

Kallithea and the G-Hotels complex are located on
the eastern shores of the westernmost of the the three peninsulas
that form Halkidki. Kallithea is about 90 kilometres from
Thessaloniki, or about 80 kilometres from "Macedonia" International
Airport.
Halkidiki is served through the "Macedonia" International Aiport of
Thessaloniki, with several airlines providing direct connections to
major European destinations. Olympic Airways and Aegean Airlines
each provide an almost hourly service linking Thessaloniki with
Athens and also connect Greece's second city with other major
domestic destinations. In season, dozens of charter charter flights
land daily at the Thessaloniki International Airport, with
passengers destined for the resorts of Halkidiki. |

| The Greek Chess Federation and the Chess Academy of Northern
Greece have the honour of inviting all National Chess
Federations affiliated to FIDE, to participate in the 74th FIDE
Congress in Halkidiki, located on Greece’s Mediterranean coast,
80 km south of Thessaloniki Airport. The Congress shall be held
from 27th of October (arrival) 3rd of November (departure). |
