World Junior Championships

Levon Aronian of Armenia and Zhao Xue of China Champions

Zhao Xue of China stole the show from top seed defending champion Koneru Humpy and walked away with glory in the 19th World Juniors' girls' chess championship that concluded there at Cidade de Goa.

Grandmaster Levon Aronian of Armenia won boys event by defeating Grandmaster Dimitry Jakovenko of Russia in the final round. The Armenian scored 10 points in all in the championship and was half a point ahead of nearest rival Grandmaster Luke Mcshane of England.

The 41st World Junior & 19th Girls U-20 Chess Championships took place at Hotel Cidade De Goa, Panaji, 8th to 21st December 2002.
