The 78th Hastings International Chess Congress took place at the Horntye Park Sport Complex from Saturday 28th December 2002 to Sunday 5th January 2003. A ten-player all-play-all tournament in Premier Tournament.
Invited players included Alexei Barsov, Pentala Harikrishna and Krishnan Sasikiran jointed winners of the 2001-2 Premier and Keith Arkell, Glenn Flear and Vitali Tseshkovsky who were among the joint winners of the challengers.

Opening ceremony: 14.00 Saturday 28.12.2002See Congress Diary for playing times.
Prizes: 2000, 1000, 700, 500, 350, 250, 200, 150, 100, 50.The winner will hold the Golombek Trophy for one year.
