Etienne Bacrot is the Champion of France for the fourth time in a row after his victory 1.5-0.5 in playoff match (rapid games 15 mins + 5 seconds)against Joel Lautier. Marie Sebag won the women's title!

The French Chess Championships took place in Val d'Isère between 19th-31st of August 2002.
