CHESS FESTIVAL
The Union of Crete’s Chess Clubs pre-announces in Rethimnon, at LEFKONIKO hotel, on the 17-21 of April, the Chess Festival named "Easter in Rethimnon 2001" and the participations of the ex International Champion, Anatoli Karpov and of the International Young Champion, Maria Kouvatsou.
This chess festival is under
the auspices of the Ministry of Sports, of the Periphery Of Crete,
of the Prefecture of Rethimnon, of the Local Union of Municipalities
and of Communities of Rethimnon, and the Municipalities of Arkadi
and of Rethimnon.
The Chess Festival will include:
On the 20th of April, Anatoli Karpov give a
simultaneous match against 20 distinguished opponents, while in the afternoon
of the same day and of the next, he will play in exhibition match against the
1999 Woman World Champion U-20, Maria Kouvatsou.

The Union of Crete’s Chess Clubs
in association with the Greek Chess Company announces the 1st Greek Interschool
Championship for Elementary Schools.
The composition of the teams
will be of four members. The composition is free but the order that will be
given before the start of the championship will be kept in all the games. If a
team puts a fifth athlete in the team, he will play in the position of the one
he substitutes.
The duration of thinking is
set up to 30 minutes for each chess player for the completion of the game. The
chess player who passes over the duration of thinking will be nullified.
The sum of the points, the
system of the Olympiad will be followed. In each encounter the team will be
given marks, according to the points gained. (4 for four victories, 3,5 for
three victories and one draw, 1 for one victory, 0,5 for one draw, 0 for no
victory). The team that gets the BYE will be considered that has won without a
game and gets 2,5 points.
Right of participation have four - membered teams with pupils of Elementary Schools. The organizers are giving an allowance to one team from every prefecture, while teams that want to take part on their own expenses can participate. If until the 31st of March any prefectures have not stated a team, then teams from other prefectures that have already stated their participation will be given the allowance. Teams that will play on their own expenses can state it until the day before the games.
6.
ENLISTING
For the final enlisting the sum of the point will be calculated. In case of equivalence, the following criteria will be used in order:
a) The result between them.
b) Match – points.
c) Points per chess - board.
d) Barrage.
7.
POSTPONEMENT
Postponements will not be given.

GAMES SYSTEM
The Swiss of 9 rounds will be used.

COST OF
PARTICIPATION
FOR THE PROVIDED TEAMS (4 athletes and 1 escort): The cost of transferring Piraeus - Crete - Piraeus and of full hospitality (with three lunches daily) is 90.000 drachmas per team. The transfer tickets are 4 in a four-bedded cabin and 1 in the airplane like seats.
FOR THE NON PROVIDED TEAMS (4 athletes and 1 escort): The transfer cost Piraeus - Crete - Piraeus and of full hospitality (with three lunches daily) is 170.000 drachmas per team.
FOR INDIVIDUALS: The cost of full hospitality (with three lunches daily) is 10.000 drachmas per day, that is 30.000 during the championship. The transfer cost Piraeus – Crete _Piraeus (in a four-bedded cabin) is 10.000 drachmas per person (with tickets that the organizers will edit).
11.
REWARDS
Cups and metals will be awarded to the first three teams of the championship, while metals will be awarded to the teams that will finish to the positions 4-7. Metals will be awarded to the three better results per chess - board, while all the students participating to the championship will receive diplomas.
The organizers will award the best two athletes - a boy and a girl – who will receive airport tickets to Eurodisney. As best athletes will be distinguished the pupils who gather most points in all 9 games.
12.
STATEMENT OF
PARTICIPATION
Statements of participation must be sent through the fax number 0831 57753 or must be e-mailed to thebest@ret.forthnet.gr, while the chess players who will participate in the team must be stated, too. The teams that will receive the allowance must state their participation until the 31 of March, while all the rest teams stating their participation must deposit the cost of their participation in the bank account of the Union, in order the transfer tickets to be sent to the leader of the team on time. In the case of a delayed statement of participation, the organizers can not guarantee the favorable discounts at the boat tickets.
13.
GENERAL
For every issue that has not been foreseen by this Announcement or the regulations of FIDE and the Greek Chess Company, the management of the games will be competent.
OPEN RAPID TOURNAMENT

DURATION OF
THINKING
The duration of thinking is set up to 25 minutes for each chess player and 5 seconds for every movement. The chess player who passes over the duration of thinking will be nullified. The games are held according to the Regulations of FIDE Quickplay Finish.
3.
POSTPONES
Postpones will not be given.

BLITZ TOURNAMENT
The Union of Crete’s Chess Clubs pre-announces on the 17th of April blitz tournament. The first three winners of the tournament will be offered hospitality freely in the open rapid tournament starting the day after.
