An eight games rapid match between Magnus Carlsen and
Peter Leko took place at the National Theater of Miskolc, in
Hungary, from May 27th to June 1st 2008. In the previous three years the
Hungarian top player met Michael Adams, Anatoly Karpov and Vladimir Kramnik,
so the tradition continues this year as well with Leko facing the Norwegian
Wunderkind.

Sochi, between the 1st and 14th of April 2008.
The powerful team of Ural - Ekaterinburg (composed by: T. Radjabov, A.
Shirov, G. Kamsky, A. Grischuk, V. Malakhov, V. Akopian, A. Dreev, A.
Motylev. Average ELO: 2702) is Russian Champion for 2008. Economist 1 -
Saratov and TPS - Saransk took 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Magnus Carlsen winner of Aerosvit 2008!
The Aerosvit tournament was organized in the sanatorium complex “Foros” in
settlement Foros of the AR Crimea from June 7th (day of arrival) until June
20th 2008 (day of departure). Magnus Carlsen being first in rank for more
than half of the tournament with outstanding playing performance, secured
his place at the top, already after the 10th round, and won very
convincingly with 8.0/11, one whole point ahead from 2nd Ivanchuk.

May 23rd to June 2nd 2008 in Sarajevo. The tournament included two groups.
In this year's stronger Group A', Morozevich Alexander (RUS 2774), Dominguez
Perez Lenier (CUB 2695), Movsesian Sergei (SVK 2695), Sokolov Ivan (NED
2690), Timofeev Artyom (RUS 2664), Predojevic Borki (BIH 2651) competed.
Alexander Morozevich is the absolute winner of the tournament with an
impressive 1.5 point difference from 2nd Dominguez.

FIDE Announcement - Athens, 1 June 2008
President guarantees Topalov –
Kamsky match
President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has announced that the World
Championship Challenger Match between Veselin Topalov (Bulgaria) and
Gata Kamsky (USA) will take place in Lvov, Ukraine in November 2008.
The organiser offered a prize fund of 750,000 USD and to hold the match on
the “neutral” territory of Ukraine, as the players wanted to avoid Bulgaria
or the USA. President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov guarantees the organiser’s
offer by backing the event from his personal finances.
FIDE Presidential Board acknowledged the offer as well as the guarantee and
assigned Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos to conclude the final
contracts and to check the availability of the finances. The Match will be
held in dates between November 26th and December 14th 2008.

Ivanchuk wins M-Tel 2008!
The super tournament (Category 20) M-Tel Masters was
organized in Sofia, Bulgaria, from May 7th to May 18th 2008. Veselin Topalov,
Vassily Ivanchuk, Levon Aronian, Teimour Radjabov, Ivan Cheparinov and Bu
Xianghzi competed in this year's event. According to the rule of draws
applied in all three previous events, agreed draws are not allowed unless
the chief arbiter decides it.
Vassily Ivanchuk is the winner of M-Tel 2008 scoring 8.0/10, one and a half
point ahead from 2nd Topalov, winner of all three previous events. The
Ukrainian top GM started very dynamically, winning all first five games in a
row, slowed down then drawing the next four until the last 10th match
against Cheparinov which he could have drawn as well but finally won very
impressively instead.
