CHESS FESTIVAL “EASTER IN RETHYMNO 2001”

 

The Union of Cretan Chess Associations announces the Chess Festival under the name “Easter in Rethymno 2001” which will be held at the hotel “LEFKONIKO” in Rethymno, from the 17th to the 21st of April, as well as the participation of the former World Champion Anatoly Karpov and the World Girl Champion Maria Kouvatsou.

This chess festival is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Athletics, the District of Crete, the Prefecture Administration of Rethymno, the Local Union of Municipalities and Communities and the Municipalities of Arkadi and Rethymno.

DEMONSTRATION CONTESTS BY THE “LEGENDARY” AN. KARPOV

On the 20th of April Anatoly Karpov is having a simultané demonstration contest (he is going to compete against more than 20 players at the same time). In the afternoon of both that and the following day he is going to have a match against the World Girl Champion Maria Kouvatsou.

1st GREEK INTERSCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIP

(for primary schools)

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Union of Cretan Chess Associations in cooperation with the Greek Chess Union (ESO) is announcing the 1st Greek Interschool Championship for Primary Schools.

 

MAKING UP OF A TEAM

A team is made up of 4 members. The making up is free, but the sequence that will be given before the beginning of the championship has to be consistent at every game. If a team wants a 5th athlete to take part, (s)he will compete instead of the person (s)he is replacing.

 

CONCENTRATION TIME

Concentration Time is up to 30 minutes for each player to complete the game. The player to exceed Concentration Time will be given no points.

 

SCORE

The score is going to follow the rules of the Olympiad. The points that every teem gets at every meeting are according to its wins (4 points for 4 wins, 3.5 for 3 wins and 1 draw … 1 for 1 win, 0.5 for 1 draw, 0 for no win). The team to get the BYE is considered to have won without a game and gets 2.5 points.

 

ENTRY PERMISSION

The championship can be entered by teams of 4 members consisted of primary school pupils. The organizers are sponsoring a team out of each Municipality. The championship may also be entered by as many teams as can afford to pay their own expenses. If any Municipalities don’t register a team till the 31st of March, then teams of other Municipalities already registered will be sponsored. Teams competing at their expense may register till one day before the games.

 

RANKING

The final ranking will be done according to the adding up of the score. In case of equalization, the following factors will be taken into consideration in this order of importance:

ENTRY COST

SPONSORED TEAMS (4 athletes and an escort): The cost of travelling from Piraeus to Crete and back, full accommodation (3 meals a day) included, comes up to 90,000 drachmas per team. The fares are: 4 in a four-bed cabin and one in the economical class.

NON SPONSORED TEAMS (4 athletes and an escort): The cost of travelling from Piraeus to Crete and back, full accommodation (3 meals a day) included, comes up to 170,000 drachmas per team.

INDIVIDUALS: The cost of full accommodation (3 meals a day) comes up to 10,000 drachmas per day, that is 30,000 for the duration of the whole championship. The cost of travelling from Piraeus to Crete and back (in a four-bed cabin) comes up to 10,000 per person (the fees will be issued by the organizers).

 

11. PRIZES

The top three teams in the championship will be awarded cups and medals. The teams to be ranked 4th-7th will also be awarded medals. The top three scores per chessboard will be awarded medals. All pupils that will take part in the championship will get a certificate.

In addition, the top two athletes - a boy and a girl - will be awarded plane tickets to Eurodisney by the organizers. Top athletes will be considered the ones to get the highest score within the 9 games.

 

REGISTRATIONS

Registrations will be put through by fax (0831-20810) or by e-mail (thebest@ret.forthnet.gr). The chess players that will take part have to be registered. Sponsored teams will have to register till the 31st of May. The teams that will register will have to deposit the entry cost in the bank account of the union, so that the fares are sent to the team captain in time. In case of a delayed registration, the organizers won’t be able to assure any kind of fare discount.

 

12. GENERAL INFORMATION

The organizers are responsible for every further issue that is not included in this Announcement and goes beyond the regulations of FIDE or ESO.

7th PAN-HELLENIC TOP CHAMPIONSHIP (S.K.E.SK)

INDIVIDUAL RAPID CHAMPIONSHIP IN CRETE

ANNOUNCEMENT

The Union of Cretan Chess Associations, within the scope of the Chess Festival “Easter in Rethymno 2001”, announces an open rapid (rapid chess) tournament, which is also an individual championship in Crete. At the same time, the Union of Cretan Chess Associations, in cooperation with S.K.E.SK, announces the 7th Pan-Hellenic Championship of Top Chess Players, which will be included in the open rapid tournament.

 

CONCENTRATION TIME

Concentration time is up to 25 minutes for each player and 5 seconds for each movement. The player to exceed concentration time will get no points. The games will follow the FIDE Quickplay Finish Regulations.

 

DELAYS

There will be no delays granted.

ENTRY PERMISSION

The championship can be entered by every male or female chess player who will compete for the general ranking and the prize money. Scores in the SKESK Championship will be evaluated by members of the Association only. The organizers will host (accommodation, food, fares and fee exemption included) ten SEEKS members (distinction holders).

 

ENTRY COST

Full accommodation (3 meals a day) cost comes up to 10,000 drachmas a day. Travelling cost from Piraeus to Crete and back comes up to 10,000 per person in a four-bed cabin and 5,900 in the economical class (the fares will be issued by the organizers).

 

FEES

Entry fees in the tournament come up to 7,000 drachmas and 5,000 for boys and girls under the age of 20.

Prize money exceeds 800,000 drachmas and is distributed as follows (it is not shared):

The top three in the general ranking, the top three in the 7th SKESK Championship and the top three in the championship of Crete will be awarded cups. The top three women will be awarded cups, too. The top three boys and 1900-1600 ELO players will be awarded medals. In addition, the top boy under the age of 16 will be awarded a wooden chessboard signed by Anatoly Karpov.

 

*** If there is not a minimum of 4 entries in one of the above categories, the organizers have the right to give the prize money designated for it to another category.

OBJECTIONS

Objections are raised within ten minutes after the end of each game and are immediately judged by the Head of the Games. Fees are up to 20,000 drachmas and must be paid to the Head of the Games. In case the objection is sustained, fees are given back.

 

RECORDING OF THE GAMES

Participants are obliged to record games except during their last two minutes.

BLITZ TOURNAMENT

The Union of Cretan Chess Associations announces a Blitz Tournament that will be held on April the 17th. The top three winners of the tournament will be hosted free at the open rapid tournament, which will begin the next day.
